In recent weeks, our global community has been shaken by the devastating tragedy unfolding in Mozambique. What began as a natural disaster has evolved into a humanitarian crisis that has left thousands of families homeless and displaced. At The Smile of Hope, we believe that distance should never be a barrier to compassion. From our base here in Bolton, we are launching an urgent appeal to help rebuild the lives of those who have lost everything.
A Landscape of Loss
The scale of the destruction is staggering. Farmers have seen their lands, crops, and livestock—their entire livelihoods—washed away in an instant. Families who once had the safety of a roof over their heads are now living in temporary camps, lacking even the most basic human necessities.
Most heartbreaking is the impact on the most vulnerable. Children are currently without schools or regular meals, and women and children in these crowded camps face an increased risk of exposure to abuse. The sense of loss is profound, but together, we can provide the protection and resources they deserve.
How We Are Responding
We are not just sending thoughts; we are sending tools for recovery. Our goal is to move beyond temporary relief and focus on rebuilding. To do this, we have established a [Donation Link] to fund the purchase of food and medical supplies.
Furthermore, we are organising a massive logistical effort to collect and ship essential items. We are looking for:
Construction Materials & Tools: To help families rebuild their homes.
Farming Equipment: To restore lands and food security.
School Supplies: To get children back into a learning environment.
Furniture & Household Items: To turn shelters back into homes.
Where You Can Help
We have set up dedicated collection points across the UK in:
Manchester | Liverpool | Leeds | Reading | London
For those who have bulky items or cannot travel, we can arrange pickups where needed. What may seem like a small, unimportant item in your garage could be a vital lifeline for a family in Mozambique.
A Call for Solidarity
Bolton has always been a town with a big heart. We are calling on our local community and our friends across the country to stand in solidarity with Mozambique. Let’s turn this immense pain into a message of hope.
